Indian Navy Agniveer (Apprentice) Eligibility Criteria 2026

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Matriculation (10th) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized Board of School Education, and must have completed a three-year diploma course from an AICTE-recognised Polytechnic Institute with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in any of the following disciplines:

Engineering Stream: Marine Engineering & Systems, Mechanical, Production/Automobile, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Repair and Maintenance, Power Plant Engineering, Industrial/Production Maintenance, Machine Manufacturing/Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Instrumentation, Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Electrical Stream: Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Age Criteria:

Note: Candidates born between 1st December 2004 and 31st October 2009 are eligible to apply for INET 2/2026. They will be shortlisted for the respective batch Stage II process as per the age criteria above.

Marital Status: Only unmarried Indian male candidates are eligible. Agniveers will not be permitted to marry during their entire four-year tenure. A candidate will be dismissed from service if found to have married during tenure or if found to be already married despite giving an unmarried certificate.

Indian Navy Agniveer (Apprentice) Pay and Benefits 2026

Agniveers will receive a monthly package of ₹30,000 in the first year with a fixed yearly increment, along with risk and hardship, dress, and travel allowances.

  • Non-contributory Life Insurance Cover of ₹48 lakh for the entire engagement period.
  • Death compensation of ₹44 lakh (one-time ex-gratia) for death attributable to service.
  • Disability compensation of ₹44/25/15 lakh based on percentage of disability (100%/75%/50%).
  • 30 days leave per year, plus sick leave based on medical advice.
  • Medical and CSD facilities at service hospitals during the engagement period.

Duration of Service and Further Enrolment

Agniveers will be enrolled under the Navy Act 1957 for a period of four years. On completion of four years, based on organisational requirements, up to 25% of each batch will be offered an opportunity to apply for permanent enrolment as Sailors (Regular Cadre) in the Indian Navy. Selection for further enrolment will be entirely at the discretion of the Indian Navy; Agniveers will have no right to demand it.

The selection will be conducted in two stages.

  • Stage-I: Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET 2/2026)
  • Shortlisting based on INET merit
  • Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
  • Stage-II Written Examination

Training

Training for Agniveer (Apprentice) 01/2027 will tentatively commence in December 2026 and for 02/2027 batch in May 2027 at INS Chilka, Odisha.
